Chlamydia/Gonorrhea Test
Eastside Pathology Inc. (EPI) offers polymerase chain reaction (PCR) testing for Chlamydia and Gonorrhea from the liquid-based ThinPrep and SurePath pap samples.
Methodology
The COBAS AMPLICOR CT/NG is a qualitative test that uses Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) to detect Chlamydia trachomatis (CT) and/or Neisseria gonorrhea (NG) plasmid DNA. Advantages of PCR are increased sensitivity and rapid turn around time.
The Washington State Department of Health recommends patients be routinely screened for Chlamydia and Gonorrhea in:
- Sexually active woman 25 years and younger.
- Women over 25 years with new or multiple sex partners.
- Pregnant women.
- Women presenting with purulent or mucopurulent cervical discharge or a friable cervix, PID and/or acute dysuria and pyuria without bacteriuria.
